Chalet Les Cerises is located in the charming alpine village of Cordon (alt. 950m), situated 3 miles drive into the mountains from Sallanches en route from Geneva to Chamonix, in the Arve valley. It is very easy to reach by car or plane.
We are situated 5 minutes walk from the village centre and enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of Mont Blanc, the Alps and the Chamonix valley.
Cordon is an unspoilt Savoyard village with many working farms dating back to 1766 and spectacular alpine scenery. It has small shops, a supermarket, ski hire, tourist office, and bars. Around the village are several chalet style hotels, all with restaurants that provide a variety of meals including set menus and Savoyard specialities. Three are within easy walking distance of Les Cerises.
A wide range of shops can be found in Sallanches including banks, pharmacies and hypermarkets.
It's a perfect location for all year round holidays, a paradise for walkers and for exploring this beautiful region. There are endless places of interest to visit and activities for both young and old including cable cars, mountain railways, summer toboggans and numerous sporting activities.
Our area of the Haute Savoie has spectacular scenery taking in mountains, lakes, glaciers, charming old towns, chateaux and picturesque villages. Both Italy and Switzerland are readily accessible for day trips.
There are too many sightseeing opportunities to mention them all and guests who have returned to stay with us several times have said they have still only scratched the surface. For example:-
Only 15 minutes by car from Cordon is the Tramway du Mont Blanc which takes you up to the 'Eagle's Nest' for a breath taking view and a short walk to the Bionnassay glacier or for the more adventurous, the starting point of the summer climb/walk to the summit of Mont Blanc. The tramway stops at stations on the way, where walks can be taken to discover alpine flowers and mountain wildlife.
The famous mountain town of Chamonix is about 25 minutes away by car. The cable car to the Aiguille du Midi, rising to 3842m (12,600ft) is the highest cable car in Europe and gives incredible views across the Alps into Switzerland and Italy; also a mountain cog railway runs to the Mer de Glace glacier and ice cave.
Close at hand are the popular towns of Megeve and St Gervais, the swimming lakes at Passy in the valley and the enchanting Lac Vert. Travelling west for 50 minutes takes you to Annecy with it's famous clear lake, very attractive old town and castle and 50 minutes north brings you to Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) and the towns of Geneva, Evian and Thonon-les-Bains. Also the picturesque medieval village of Yvoire where a 25min trip on a 'steamer' will take you across the lake into Switzerland.
